  • “Indiana Jones” villain Mola Ram is the leader of the Thuggee cult and worships the deity Kali Ma.
  • Although it is very vicious, it does not have sharp fangs. A missed opportunity, as George Lucas thinks.
  • A poster designer shares a funny anecdote on Twitter about a conversation between him and the “Indiana Jones” creator.

“Indiana Jones” became a phenomenon in the 80s and is now cult. There are five films in the adventure film series and the most recent film, “Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Destiny,” is now available to stream on Disney+, but with a catch! The character was created by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas (“Star Wars”).

The latter is said to have found an idea for the second film “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” so good that he wished he had thought of it himself. How serious he is about this remains unclear. It’s about giving sharp fangs to the villainous Mola Ram (Amrish Puri).

Designer Drew Struzan designed the poster for “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” and George Lucas apparently liked the design so much that he called the designer, as Struzan shared on Twitter. However, Lucas began the conversation by pointing out a detail: “Why did you give Mola Ram pointy teeth?”

Of course, anyone who remembers the film knows that Mola Ram didn’t have sharp teeth there. However, Struzan replied to Lucas: “I had the feeling that he needed it.” Lucas’ answer surprises and makes you smile: “I wish I had thought of that.”

Mola Ram

Mola Ram was the leader of the Thuggee cult, which believed in the deity Kali Ma and practiced black magic. “Kali Ma” loosely translated means something like “Black Mother”.

To what extent Lucas would have really liked to change Mola Ram’s character design afterwards remains unclear. However, this conversation suggests that he likes the idea. And it is already known from “Star Wars” that Lucas does not shy away from creative ideas that may not always be logical.

The “Indiana Jones” films are currently all streaming on Disney+, including “Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Destiny”. To watch the film there, however, you need a VPN service. We’ll tell you how it works!
