The long list of videos with a billion views on YouTube grows a little longer every day, but in the case of Indila’s “Last Dance”, it’s a first: the clip is the first French song to join the Billion Views Club, the unofficial ranking of videos that have passed the fateful threshold of one thousand million broadcasts on the platform.

“Gangnam Style” is the first music video to reach the billion views on YouTube. When it was released, Psy’s song was an instant hit internationally, and its YouTube counter broke the viewing record in less than six months. THE Indila’s video success was slower to emerge. If “Dernière danse” became the sales number in France a week after its publication and the clip quickly accumulated 10 million views on the networks, it will have taken a little more than nine years for the YouTube counter of the artist to reach one billion.

French Internet users alone would not have allowed Indila to achieve such success on the video-sharing service. Indila, Adila Sedraia of her real name, does indeed benefit from a renewed global interest. The news of the singer could not be calmer, and nothing seems to indicate that she will really publish her second opus, the release of which has been postponed for several years.

Where does this long-term success come from? Some media are speculating that “Last Dance” went viral on YouTube thanks to Britney Spears, who showed her appreciation for the French artist through several videos, or even thanks to a member of BTS, who took over the song on TikTok.
