inflation boosts demand for renewable energy, Actualité/Actu Immobilier

Demand for heating devices using renewable energy has accelerated sharply since the start of the year. According to an article by Echoes published this Thursday, August 11, that for wood-fired boilers has increased tenfold over the past 10 months, that for photovoltaic installations has tripled between the 3rd quarter of 2021 and the end of the 2nd quarter of 2022, while the heat pump market, which had already grown by 50% in 2021, continues this momentum.

At the source of this enthusiasm: the explosion in gas prices, which made those of wood very competitive (two and a half times cheaper than gas currently), but also increased state aid and the ban on new oil-fired boilers, which came into effect at the beginning of the summer.

A fundamental trend

In the context of inflation and the war in Ukraine, which led the government to strengthen its bonus schemes to accelerate the energy transition of French households, renewable energies are on the rise. The future requirements imposed on landlords, who will no longer be able to rent out their energy-intensive properties, are also pushing households to turn to these alternative solutions.

The development of the sector has a bright future ahead of it, while the road to the energy transition of the French housing stock is still a long way to go: a study by the National Observatory for Energy Renovation (ONRE) thus assesses at 7.2 million the number of “energy sieves” in France on January 1, 2022 (classified F and G by the energy performance diagnosis). In total, approximately 1.58 million rental units (1 million apartments and approximately 580,000 houses) are energy sieves that their owners will have to renovate if they want to continue to rent them in the coming years…
