Influence of the pandemic: majority stuck to New Year’s Eve plans

Influence of the pandemic
Majority sticks to New Year’s Eve plans

With the spread of the Omikron variant, vaccinated people also have to reduce private contacts again. With a view to New Year’s Eve, only ten people will be allowed to meet from tomorrow. With a narrow majority, however, according to a survey, the plans for the turn of the year do not change because of this.

The corona rules, which have recently been tightened by the federal and state governments, have no influence on their New Year’s Eve plans for the majority of Germans. This is shown by a survey for the RTL / ntv trend barometer carried out by the opinion research institute Forsa. Accordingly, 53 percent said they had not changed their plans – compared to 45 percent who will celebrate the turn of the year differently than they actually wanted due to the new contact restrictions.

Last year, 69 percent of those surveyed still had an impact on the New Year’s Eve regulations, and only 30 percent did not change their plans. By December 28th at the latest, only ten people are allowed to meet – even if they have been vaccinated or have recovered.

According to the survey, 44 percent want to spend New Year’s Eve with their families or relatives this year. A third (31 percent) plan to celebrate with friends and acquaintances. 23 percent will probably spend the turn of the year alone. About half of those under 30 think that they will spend New Year’s Eve with friends and acquaintances. People over 60 are more likely than other groups of respondents to say that they will spend New Year’s Eve alone.

A good half of those surveyed (58 percent) plan to do more sport in 2022
to drift. Just as many want to spend more time with their families. 44 percent plan to allow themselves more free time and 40 percent want to eat healthier. 37 percent have set themselves the goal of losing weight. 16 percent want to drink less alcohol and 10 percent of those surveyed want to quit smoking. Only 18 percent of those surveyed state that the Corona crisis has an impact on whether or which resolutions they have for the coming year. For the vast majority of 82 percent of those surveyed, the Corona crisis has no impact on the resolutions for 2022.

Forsa interviewed a total of 1006 people between December 21 and 22 for the survey. The stated values have a statistical margin of error of plus / minus three percentage points.
