As the 2024 Olympics approach, Europe 1 exclusively reveals the system put in place by the Ministry of Justice to stem crime during this period. The Chancellery plans in particular to increase its resources for the courts of Paris, Bobigny and Versailles, where the Games events will be concentrated.

The 2024 Olympics are fast approaching. France is testing its security system. From July 26, Paris expects nearly 16 million tourists and spectators. This competition represents a major security challenge. Police are hard at work in key venues of the competition to make life difficult for offenders. Just like the forces of order, justice is preparing for an increase in possible delinquency. The watchword of justice is “anticipation”.

Increase in means

The Chancellery has planned reinforcements for the courts of Paris, Bobigny and Versailles, where the Olympic Games events will be concentrated. From September, young magistrates will start their careers. They will be 125 out of 333 this year. They were only 75 last year to join the Paris region. These reinforcements are welcomed by the profession.

The summer period is usually synonymous with court vacations. Nevertheless, in 2024, the courts will have to operate at full speed. At the Bobigny court, days of hearings have been freed up to be able to judge the offenders attracted by the event. This increased activity risks exploding the already long notice periods, twelve months on average in Ile-de-France.

In order to cope with this, magistrates are asked to spread their summer holidays over a much longer period than usual to avoid too many absences. The judges fear that the concentration of these efforts will be made to the detriment of other courts already suffering.
