Emmanuel Macron goes to Vassieux-en-Vercors, in Drôme, on Tuesday to pay tribute to the Vercors maquis, marked by a massacre of civilians during the Second World War. This visit takes place on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Liberation. An international ceremony will be organized in Normandy on June 6. Should we invite Russia? France is preparing to make its decision public.

According to information from Europe 1, Russia will be well represented at the beginning of June in Normandy if Moscow accepts the invitation from the Élysée. Unless there is a twist, President Vladimir Putin will not participate in the commemorations in person but a Russian delegation will be invited.

An invitation card addressed to the diplomatic representation of Moscow in France

The Kremlin strongman was present at the 70th anniversary of the Normandy landings, but absent five years ago. Whatever happens, an invitation card will be sent to the diplomatic representation of Moscow in France.

Despite the geopolitical situation, it is indeed difficult to completely do without the presence of Russia, although the USSR did not directly participate in the Landings of June 6. She made it possible by paying the heaviest price during the Second World War. Nearly 27 million Soviets died fighting against Germany.
