The international community meets Tuesday morning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Paris. The conference, dubbed “Solidarity of the Ukrainian people”, is being held in the presence of French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Schmyhal. According to information from Europe 1, France will send 63 large generators and four large transformers to Ukraine.
The international community, meeting in Paris on Tuesday, is once again mobilizing in favor of Ukraine, this time with the dual objective of orchestrating immediate aid to the Ukrainian population, the daily target of Russian attacks, and preparing for reconstruction.
After the conferences in Lugano, Warsaw and Berlin in recent months, this meeting aims to neutralize the strategy implemented since October by Russia, which consists of attacking civilian infrastructure to make the Ukrainian population suffer and weaken resistance. According to information from Europe 1, France will organize the transport to Ukraine of 63 large generators as well as four large transformers, donated by EDF.
Still according to information from Europe 1, all the countries will announce several hundred million euros in support for Ukraine. The European Commission will focus in particular on the problem of lighting in the country.
Five Core Areas
Conference speakers will focus on five fundamental areas – energy, water, food, health and transport – to enable Ukraine to keep critical infrastructure in working order. “The immediate objective, (…) is that the Ukrainian electricity network does not collapse, that we do not have a blackout of several weeks, that the water does not freeze in the pipes” because the latter would then be out of service “until the summer”, it was explained to the Elysée and the Quai d’Orsay.
The effort must focus on restoring the infrastructure after each Russian bombardment so that the population can get through the winter, and also keep their morale up.
