ING customers have to react now: Extra costs are soon to come


ING customers must take action now: anyone who does not respond to a letter from the direct bank in the next few days will have to pay for their account from March. Here we summarize what you need to know now.

While direct banks such as ING, DKB or Comdirect were long the free alternative to savings banks and the like, since they never charged account management fees, many are now pulling the ripcord.

As early as the end of 2021, ING started to inform customers about a change in a letter. It points out that users must respond to this by March 1, 2022, otherwise a fee of 99 cents per month will be charged for the Girocard, as reported by finanz-szene.de, among others.

Customers who do not want to pay for their Girocard in the future must therefore cancel by March 1st. If you don’t want to do without the payment card, you have to accept the new fees. The change will apply from March, but the first debit will not take place until April, according to ING.

Users can terminate the contract both via the ING app and via the browser. In the app, simply go to “Cards” in the top left menu and then to “Cancel card”. In the browser go to the start page of online banking and select “Settings” at the top right and then go to “Cards” and “girocard”. From there, go to “Card Management” and “Cancel Card” via the “Manage” menu item. Then confirm by clicking on the “Cancel card” button again.
