2024 - Insta360 X4: two cameras in one and up to 8K

Insta360 announces the new Insta360 X4 now capable of filming in 8K, as well as 5.7K at 60 FPS and 4K at 100 FPS. The X4 can also be used as a traditional action camera, with its now improved single-lens mode offering ultra-wide and smooth images in 4K at 60 FPS. Strong creative potential supported by a powerful 5nm AI chip, an intelligent control system with features such as voice and gesture control, as well as improved battery performance with a battery life of 135 minutes. A host of AI-powered recording and editing features make it easy to capture and share unique and creative footage. Regardless of resolution or frame rate, shooting 360° with the X4 offers unique benefits like the invisible selfie stick effect, creating views that look like they were shot by a drone. This also extends to photos, with the X4 capable of taking 72MP 360° photos, now with built-in AI denoising.

Two-in-one camera

The X4 serves as both a 360° camera and a classic wide-angle action camera. When you know exactly what you want to shoot, simply switch to single-lens mode for immersive wide-angle video. Removable lens caps: easy to apply and remove. Two options include standard lens protectors (free with the camera) or premium lens protectors made with tough, scratch-resistant tempered glass for action-ready ruggedness.

Simplified use

The user will be able to use hand gestures to start/stop a recording or take a photo or use voice commands thanks to Voice Control 2.0. Scheduled Recording allows you to program the X4 to automatically turn on, record, and turn off.

Creative recording modes have also received some major upgrades:

Bullet Time: Now up to 5.7K at 120 FPS or 3K at 240 FPS.
TimeShift 8K: a stunning hyperlapse in incredible 8K resolution.

The camera incorporates other tools like the Motion ND effect, to add cinematic motion blur without using an ND filter. Runners and cyclists will be able to incorporate GPS, speed and power data from their Garmin device or Apple Watch into their videos by choosing from various interactive statistical dashboards available (via the Insta360 app).

Smart, AI-powered editing.

The Insta360 software editing suite offers various options from AI editing to fully customized manual editing. Cropping has two improved options. With quick editing, simply move your phone or use the virtual joystick to aim the camera. Cropped clips are immediately saved and ready to share. Without any user intervention, Insta360 AI editing takes care of the entire cropping process with enhanced subject detection. The Insta360 app also features Shot Lab mode, offering over 30 effects that can be edited in just a few clicks.
To edit wisely at home, the Insta360 Studio software is a very flexible editing tool that also allows you to produce montages ready to be shared at a maximized resolution, compatible with both 360° images and classic flat images. Both applications (mobile and desktop software) are free. To go further, Insta360 has just launched Insta360 Reframe, its own plug-in for Premiere Pro which ensures the cropping of 360° files shot with the X4 directly in Adobe’s software for a smoother workflow, with minimum export.
