Instagram is currently testing a new subscription feature for creators that can cost users up to $100 a month.

In the future, Instagram users may be able to pay monthly subscriptions to get access to exclusive content from their favorite creators. The social media platform is testing a corresponding subscription model in the USA, as the parent company Meta has announced. The whole thing is called “Instagram Subscriptions”.

What do the “Instagram Subscriptions” offer?

As a test, ten US users can now offer their followers exclusive content for a monthly fee. Also present are gymnast Jordan Chiles (20) and actress Kelsey Lynn Cook (18). Among other things, creators can post exclusive stories and start live streams that only subscribers can access. In the coming months, the test will be extended to other users.

Creators can decide for themselves how much a subscription should cost per month. According to a report by the industry magazine “The Hollywood Reporter” there are currently eight options between 99 cents and 99.99 euros per month. For the time being, Meta will not claim any share of the income that users generate through the subscriptions. This should change in 2023 at the earliest.
