Meta has just announced a new feature aimed at young people, to help… their sleep.
For several years now, Meta has been working to improve safety on Instagram, in particular by trying to protect, as much as possible, the good mental health of young users. Today, the company indicates the implementation of a new function aimed at optimizing… sleep.
A new function to encourage young people to spend less time on Instagram
Indeed, like many Instagram users, you have already scrolled through your main feed for long minutes, viewing a multitude of Reels, each more varied than the other, to the point of a form of (re ) awareness, sometimes very late at night.
At Meta, we (rightly) consider that sleep is important, especially for younger people. This is why the group will deploy new nightly warnings that will appear when teenagers have spent more than 10 minutes on Instagram, searching their inbox or the Reels section.
Whoa! Back to sleep, teenagers!
The message broadcast by the parent company of Instagram will be as follows: “ It’s getting late. Consider closing Instagram for the night “. A simple and effective recommendation that could encourage some users to (finally!) put their smartphone on the bedside table.
The message will particularly target users aged 13 to 17, who tend to use the application a little too late at night. In detail, the latter can appear on the screen when you spend more than 10 consecutive minutes watching identical content, between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m.
Recall that for “ detoxify » some users, Instagram already allows you to set certain usage limits, including the possibility of inviting you to take a regular break every 10, 20 or 30 minutes, but also of muting the sound of notifications, or even of configuring automatic responses to direct messages.
On January 31, Mark Zuckerberg, as well as the leaders of X.com, Discord, SnapChat and TikTok, will have to face questions from American senators on the online protection of children’s rights. This perhaps partly explains this…
