Instagram could soon add an unexpected feature to its app, which should give you more flexibility when posting your new photos to your profile.
Instagram is reportedly about to introduce a feature that could change the way we share our memories: retroactive posts. A screenshot from Alessandro Paluzzi, a trusted source for app leaks, hints at a “Post to the Past” optionsuggesting that users might soon weave their narratives retroactively.
This new feature, represented by a calendar icon, features prominently among the sharing options. It is hoped, however, that the messages will carry a marker indicating their backdated status.as it could otherwise well lead to personal and legal disputes if such indicators are absent.

It will soon be possible to backdate your publications on Instagram
As a reminder, Instagram’s sister platform, Facebook, allows you to change the publication date on your timeline. But you can only change the date of content you have already posted on Facebook.
Currently, the Meta-owned social media platform does not allow you to share backdated posts, Reels, or Stories. However, you can access content you have shared in the past by going to the Archives section in the app settings.
Paluzzi’s escape is part ofa broader set of updates planned for the Meta product suite. Besides the backdating feature, improvements such as file sharing in Instagram DMs, a new “Shot” story format and a “Pop-mode” camera tool are in the works.
If Instagram implements the ability to backdate posts, it will be interesting to see how it will change the way we use the app. Will this better organize the photos on our profile, or will users use this feature for malicious purposes? We hope that this will be sufficient to face the threat of TikTok, which intends to launch its own competitor to Instagram in the coming months.
