Instant Vintage: when a very young Julien Clerc celebrated Christmas in the mid-1970s


While Christmas 2021 has just ended, Télé Star has decided to put Julien Clerc in the spotlight by bringing out from its archives photos of the singer celebrating this annual celebration in the mid-1970s.

True legend of French song, Julien Clerc has one of the finest careers in the French music industry. Born October 4, 1947 in Paris, he grew up listening to classical music in his father’s house, while his mother introduced him to singers such as Georges Brassens and Édith Piaf. Still a student at the time, Julien Clerc obtained his first success in May 1968, with the release of his hit titled The Cavalry. Later that same year, he will go on tour with Adamo, before perform for the first time the following year on the stage of the Olympia, opening act by Gilbert Bécaud.

It is precisely thanks to this performance that he was noticed by Bertrand Castelli and the producer Annie Fargue, who offer him the first role in the musical Hate. Subsequently, Julien Clerc, will release no less than 5 albums between 1971 and 1976. Within these different discs, we can find some of his greatest hits like : It’s nothing, If we sang, The Skater, It makes the good Lord cry, She is an Andalusian, Dance there, This Melody, She wanted to be called Venice, or even To suffer through you is not to suffer. The successes will follow one another throughout the 70s for the singer, which will then operate a change of style in the 80s.

Since, Julien Clerc’s popularity with the public has never wavered. In total, the musician has released so far no less than 26 studio albums, 13 live albums, as well as 68 singles. His latest record is a cover album entitled Happy Days, which was released on Friday, November 26, 2021. Viewers of TF1 were also able to discover the singer in a new register in 2019, given that he was part that year coaches from the 8th season of tele-hook The Voice, alongside Soprano, Mika and Jenifer. Unfortunately for him, his candidate came last in the final of this edition, which was won by Whitney Marin alongside Mika.
