Instead of a charging station – will the electricity come from the curb in the future?

For curb parkers without their own wall box, charging their e-car can become a problem. A possible solution is at hand.

Sockets for e-cars could turn the gutter into a “loading curb” in the future. The German armaments and technology group Rheinmetall has now presented a corresponding concept that is intended to impress with its small space requirement and unobtrusive integration into the cityscape. By integrating charging electronics into a curb, this actually becomes a “charging station”, but without the one for other road users charging station related restrictions. In addition, electric vehicles can be charged directly at the curb without having to lay cables across the sidewalk. A fold-out type 2 socket for alternating current is integrated into the modules and can deliver up to 22 kilowatts of power. The curb stations require less space than conventional charging stations and can be integrated directly in the construction of a road in the form of dummies. If necessary, the electronics module can be retrofitted in just a few minutes. The concept is primarily intended for use in city centers, but is also suitable for company parking lots or apartment buildings. Rheinmetall has not yet given a date for the market launch.
