With the hybrid CPU approach, new performance cores with a significantly higher IPC, efficiency oriented cores and the new platform with PCIe 5.0 and DDR5, Intel Alder Lake is undoubtedly the big comeback of Intel in the competition against AMD.
Intel drives the point home with 22 new 12th generation Core processor references for desktop PCs. Alder Lake-S based processors will flood the market. There will be 28 in total, ranging from the 16-core Core i9 to the 2-core Celeron, with a TDP of 35 to 202 watts.
In addition to the classic 65-watt models, Intel is introducing 35-watt processors in the Core i7s and Core i9s. These are still based on 8 high performance cores (P-Cores), with the Core i9 there are 8 E-Cores, with the Core i7 there are also 4 E-Cores. You will also notice the presence of non-K versions, which are therefore not overclockable, as well as non-hybrid Core i3 and Core i5, made up of high performance cores (P-Cores).
And last but not least, prices have also increased. For example, Intel is asking more for the Core i5-12400F, the Core i5-11400F was $ 10 less in 2021.
New chipsets
In November 2021, Intel launched a new high-end chipset, the Intel Z690. Intel suddenly introduces additional chipsets. The B660 chipset is the most anticipated, while OEMs favor the H670 chipset and also use the H610 for low cost solutions. But these are chipsets designed to drive down prices, so they lose features like access to overclocking.
All chipsets are connected to the processor via DMI 4.0, except the H610, all also offer additional PCIe 4.0 via the chipset. This will allow manufacturers to market cheaper motherboards.
Finally, Intel is introducing three new active cooling systems. They will be sold in a pack with the CPUs, but also separately.
