Available for only a few days, laptops based on processors Meteor Lake still has plenty of room for improvement.

Not always easy to follow, Intel is currently juggling between at least two ranges of so-called “consumer” processors with the pursuit of Raptor Lake Refresh on one side and the Meteor Lake evolution on the other.

It is this second generation which is making a little more noise with rather encouraging signs for those who have already adopted Meteor Lake or who are preparing to do so soon.

BIOS set to (further) evolve

On December 14, Intel unveiled its new generation of processors through a large presentation of chips, but also and above all laptop PCs with the help of several partners.

Partners who had not hesitated to send test models to several journalists. In fact, quite a few articles were published at the same time or shortly after Intel’s official presentation. The performances were interesting, but sometimes below what the journalists hoped for.

Today, our colleagues from Wccftech specify that several of these journalists have updated their articles. They were actually able to take advantage of BIOS updates on their test laptops.

More or less 12% increase

Thus, ASUS was among the first to update its UEFI BIOS and make it known to the journalists concerned. Among them, Andrei Girbea, tester for the site UltrabookReviewhas already been able to relaunch certain measures.

The transition from BIOS version 201 to version 203 enabled it to achieve an increase in performance on Cinebench R23 of around 12.5%. A nice difference with the previous tests: we go from 12,357 points in the best case on the 201 to 13,873 points on the 203.

Another tester – Golden Pig Upgrade – highlighted “ problems in the power supplied “. The BIOS update would also have brought very clear improvements in energy management as well as in the level of performance observed.

Knowing that Meteor Lake is an opportunity for Intel to introduce a number of new technological features – new P/E cores, new architecture, new burning node – it is not surprising that optimizations are possible. He is also happy to see updates coming one after the other.
