Update at 4:30 p.m.: Intel not only sent out a press release to confirm the release of its Core i9-12900KS on April 5, but it also gave the price of this processor. So it will be 739 dollars and we are waiting for European pricing.

History of cutting the grass under the foot of the competitor AMD which releases its new processor
Ryzen 7 5800X3D two weeks later.

The next generation of Intel processors is expected in fall 2022 with Raptor Lake. However, the American does not intend to leave the field open to AMD and its Ryzen 7 5800X3D with V-Cache.

Up to 5.5 GHz on a single core

We’ve known it for a few weeks now that Intel actually has a Core i9-12900KS in its boxes. On paper, it looks like two drops of water to the Core i9-12900K that we were testing six months ago.

So it’s still a 12 CPUand generation, it is still based on a hybrid architecture made up of 8 high-performance cores (Golden Cove) and 8 efficient cores (Gracemont) and the amount of cache does not move a byte: 14 MB of L2 cache, 30 MB of L3 cache.

The difference is essentially on the side of the frequencies applied to the hearts. Thus, the 12900KS is capable of 5.2 GHz on all cores and up to 5.5 GHz on a single core. A gap that could result in performance up 5 to 10%.

The Core i9-12900KS is not a direct competitor to the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, it is way too expensive for that. But by stalling its release on April 5, two weeks before AMD’s new processor, Intel is trying to pull the cover.
