Intel’s Raptor Lake processors (13th Gen) would arrive fast and hit hard

The giant Intel has been making a lot of noise lately thanks to a promising generation of Alder Lake processors. Our first desktop CPU tests have indeed shown very good performance despite a marked increase in consumption. This is only the beginning as we expect to be able to test processors for H, P and U series laptops, and a few more desktop models.

The 13th generation already within reach?

Despite a still busy schedule for this 12th generation, Intel seems well and truly determined to release its Raptor Lake in stride, and faster than we thought. According to youtubeur Moore’s Law Is Dead, we would see this 13th generation land at the end of the third quarter of 2022, i.e. in September. The mobile versions will wait a little longer, as always, and would not arrive until the end of the fourth quarter.

If Intel mentioned a performance increase “up to two digits” at its annual conference for investors, a few days ago, Moore’s Law Is Dead provides a little more detail by counting on gains of 8 to 15% in single thread, and 30 to 40% in multithread. A fairly wide range, but plausible insofar as Intel has confirmed that its most high-end processors will integrate up to 24 cores – by combining high-performance and efficient cores –, against 16 currently. Figures to be taken with tweezers since we do not know which model could have been tested, nor under what conditions.

Processors galore in 2022

The year 2022 promises to be busy in any case on the side of processors at Intel, but also at competitor AMD, which is slowly starting to deploy its Ryzen 6000 on laptops. Also, if the desktop Ryzen 7000s were originally slated for the fall, the release might be brought forward to the summer, so as not to let Intel get too far ahead.

The battle promises to be tough, and the future Ryzen architecture, based on a fine engraving in 5 nm, has in any case an interest in proving itself if it does not want to be eaten by Raptor Lake, which already promises good performance. .
