Italy: Vialli died at the age of 58

Former Italian footballer Gianluca Vialli has died of cancer at the age of 58. This was reported by the Italian news agency ANSA on Friday morning. Vialli, who earned his money at Sampdoria, Juventus Turin and Chelsea, among others, played 59 international matches for the “Squadra Azzurra”. In 2017 he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. From October 2019 to December 2022, Vialli was head of delegation for the Italian national team and played a key role in the 2021 European Championship title.

Europe: Ceferin unopposed

At the Uefa Congress on April 5 in Lisbon, Aleksander Ceferin will stand unopposed for the election of Uefa President. His re-election is considered certain. The 55-year-old Slovenian has led the association since September 2016.

England: Van Dijk is out for weeks

Liverpool, sixth in the Premier League, will be without top defender Virgil van Dijk for several weeks. The Dutchman sustained a muscle injury in Monday’s league game against Brentford (1-3). “The diagnosis was pretty tough. We’re talking about more than a month,” said coach Jürgen Klopp.

England: Wagner becomes coach of Norwich City

Now it’s fixed: coach David Wagner has been given a twelve-month contract with the English second division club Norwich City. The 51-year-old German succeeds Dean Smith. Wagner had been unemployed since being fired from the Young Boys in early March 2022. Norwich have taken just 1 point in the last 4 games in the championship and are 11th in the table.

Italy: Lazio’s fan curve remains empty on Sunday

The racism incident in Serie A during the game between Lecce and Lazio on Wednesday has consequences: the sports court of the Italian league blocks the fans of Lazio. The league announced on Thursday evening that fans of the “Biancocelesti” had repeatedly racially insulted the Lecce players Samuel Umtiti and Lameck Banda during the game. This means that the Curva Nord will remain empty for the upcoming home game against FC Empoli on Sunday.
