International Surfing Federation welcomes suspension of work at Teahupoo

Is the organization of the Olympic surfing events on the Teahupoo wave in French Polynesia increasingly compromised? On Wednesday December 6, the International Surfing Federation (ISA) welcomed, in a press releasethe decision of the Polynesian government to suspend work to install the new judges’ tower on the Teahupoo Olympics-2024 site, after damage inflicted on corals during technical tests.

On Friday, the barge planned for the drilling site for the new foundations, which was to begin on December 4, broke blocks of coral under the eye of environmental activists. “Since the beginning of the process of organizing the Olympic surfing events in French Polynesia, the ISA has always insisted that the protection of the natural site of Teahupoo was a priority”specifies the ISA, which invites “ to intensify discussions to examine all possible options.”
