INTERVIEW – Clémence Botino on her way to Miss World: “I want to go all the way”

A participation that she was impatiently awaiting. After several postponements, Clémence Botino finally flew to India. On March 9, Miss France 2020 will defend the tricolor colors during the Miss World pageant which will take place in Mumbai. After climbing into the top 10 at Miss Universe 2021, the 27-year-old Guadeloupean hopes to win the crown which France has lacked since 1953. Before living this new experience and revealing her national costume, during the opening ceremony of the competition this Tuesday, February 20, Clémence Botino spoke to Gala.fr. Encounter.

Gala.fr: A few days before the Miss World competition, what state of mind are you in?

Clemence Botino: I’m handling it quite well given that it’s my fourth competition. It is not given to everyone to be able to lead this competition four years after their election to Miss France. I don’t even think it ever happened (she laughs). It’s really lucky for me. I am quite calm. I want to go all the way. The little stress starts to build up but it’s a good adrenaline rush. I will need it. I’m really excited!

Gala.fr: Was it your idea to participate in Miss World?

Clemence Botino: You should know that the reigning Miss France chooses one of the competitions. Then, we offer the second to former Misses. I always told the Miss France organization that I was up for it and that they shouldn’t hesitate to ask me because it would make me very happy to be able to get back on stage. When I told them that, a year and a half ago now, I was more in the mood for a new adventure. Little by little, it really became a project. It’s a chance that Miss France gave me and I’m really happy.

Gala.fr: Did you expect to experience such a journey?

Clemence Botino: No way ! When I was elected Miss France, I didn’t see myself that far ahead in my career. I didn’t think I would one day be able to claim an international crown.

Gala.fr: How did you prepare for this new beauty contest?

Clemence Botino: It was very intense like for Miss Universe. As the Miss World pageant was to take place in December 2022, then in May 2023, I had time to prepare. I was able to learn more about hair and makeup. I also took a lot of catwalk classes (from parade, editor’s note). And I did a lot of sport with a coach. I could never have been so well prepared for this competition.

Gala.fr: The various postponements haven’t demoralized you too much?

Clemence Botino: Honestly, yes. It was a bit hard for motivation. But, it’s such a chance to be able to live this experience. I’m really looking forward !
