This Friday, April 29, the Crocodile was marked out during this third season of Mask Singer. Surprise, it was Marc-Antoine Le Bret – already eliminated as Tigress – who was hiding under this costume. He gives himself up to Télé Star.
Never two without three… For its third season,Mask Singer reserved a plethora of twists for viewers. The faithful were thus able to discover not one but two international stars. A guest investigator even appeared for one number, after delivering a masked performance. But if there is one incident that neither program enthusiasts nor investigators saw coming, it is thatthe same personality could hide under two different costumes. This is done thanks to Marc-Antoine Le Bret. On April 8, the imitator was forced to remove his Tigress mask. After pretending he was Fanny Ardant then Chantal Ladesou, he stunned Alessandra Sublet, Kev Adams, Jarry and Anggun by revealing his true face. Rebelote this Friday, April 29. Since the beginning of the adventure, the budding investigators were all convinced that Mika was hiding under the disguise of the Crocodile. The jurors were less sure of themselves. Only Anggun remained on this track, while Alessandra Sublet opted rather – without much conviction – for her accomplice, Nicolas Canteloup. So it was once again in awe that they discovered a Marc-Antoine Le Bret who does not hide his joy at having won his bet!
Télé Star: Did you take pleasure in embodying these two characters and fooling investigators ?
Marc-Antoine Le Bret: (laughs) Of course, and not only them. Watching the shows, I had the reactions of my relatives and people I work with who were not aware. They were surprised to find me as Tigress. Since then, I asked them for their predictions on the other characters. Everyone was convinced that the Croco was Mika (laughs). It was funny, even if I almost wanted to tell them the truth.
Surprisingly, Camille Combal had guessed on first listening to the Crocodile that it was you…
I have no idea how he spotted me, since he didn’t know.
Did you come up with this idea?
No, it was the production that offered it to me, which I thought was great. We thought together about what we could put in place. We thought it would be interesting to make a character with a different imitation at each bonus, so the Tigress. And on the contrary to stay on a voice of Mika from A to Z without changing the tone for the Crocodile.
Why did Mika choose it?
I suggested it to them because I’m comfortable in that voice. He has an accent, he sings, he matches my size so he’s a character I could have fun with, whether in terms of imitation, gestures, choice of songs… I could really have fun.
How would you have done if you had come face to face with yourself?
It didn’t have to happen. The great difficulty was indeed that at some point the two characters could meet. This is why I made several imitations in the characters of the Tigress. We imagined that because of this, she would be eliminated earlier. After Chantal Ladesou, I was supposed to imitate Jean-Marie Bigard, which would have allowed investigators to look for imitators. I know Jarry and Kev Adams a bit so I think they would have found it. That’s what we said to ourselves with the production, afterwards we couldn’t know for sure. We were heading into the unknown.
Some Internet users accuse you of being anti-gambling.
There aren’t really precise rules, it’s not Monopoly. It’s the first time they’ve done this. Mask Singer, it’s funny. You have to know how to innovate and there was a real artistic performance. It was a show, a real gag. So that could have been risky. It would have been complicated if my imitations had been found to be bad, but I had a lot of very positive feedback.
Do you know if Mika watched your performances?
I don’t know at all but I think so, considering all the tweets about him that have come through. He was in Top Tweet from the first bonus. I was so happy. He must have wondered what was going on but I didn’t hear back from him. I had already imitated him in front of him and he had been super nice, it had gone very well.
Did your wife know you were in two suits?
Yes, just like my mother, but very few people knew about it. I hadn’t told my brother or my friends. Even my eight-year-old daughter-in-law, I didn’t tell her because it’s hard for a child to keep a secret. So she was very happy.
Will we find you in a third costume?
I do not say anything. Who knows… It’s going to be a running gag (laughs).
