INTERVIEW. Narcisse Mame (I promise you): “It will become very conflictual between Mathis and Agnès”

Télé Star: What are the challenges of season 2 of I promise you for Mathis?

Mame Narcissus : He did not know Amidou (Bass Dhem), his biological father, for long. He is therefore in a search and a malaise. He in turn wants to become a foster dad for Rose (Sandy Afiuni). Mathis thinks at the start that it will be simple and “acquired” from his experience… He sees that it is not. He will have to find common ground with this young girl, who is both very disturbed by her teenage experience and who also needs love.

Why recover Rose despite the unfavorable opinion of Agnès (Léonie Simaga), his wife?

He ignores his wife’s advice and warnings. He is quite stubborn and obtuse. When he has a logic in mind, it is not another. With Rose, he would just have to let his guard down and talk like you would talk to anyone to hear what she is saying with her words and her pain. It’s a beautiful story that is being built, they have points in common. They just have a hard time letting go.

Does he have a taste of unfinished business in his relationship with Amidou?

The departure of this father came too soon. He had found a way to grieve, but just when he thought he had healed his wounds, there is a new revelation that occurs and stirs everything. With him, all it takes is a small spark to ignite everything. This will cause big arguments with his wife who does not understand why he is questioning everything. The ghost of Amidou hovers…

Mathis therefore goes through a period of deep introspection in season 2 of I promise you…

He understood things: he gave everything for his career and this box which, in the end, did not even support him when his father left. Financially, it’s fine. His wife wants to go back to work, it’s her choice. He therefore wants to be able to spend more time with his children, his family, because he thinks that he may have missed important moments.

Will the couple stay together during this kind of “existential crisis”?

We think they are a solid couple, they have found their base and it’s been a very long time… But Mathis’ behavior is starting to weigh on Agnès. She too will reach her limits because he says he can take care of the children, the family, the house, while his emotions make him do irrational things. It will become very confrontational between them. The characters assert themselves and the longevity of the couple is more delicate.
