INTERVIEW. Vaimalama Chaves (The Most Beautiful Holidays): “The distance with Nicolas allows us to avoid the routine”

This Monday, July 11, Vaimalama Chaves and her darling Nicolas Fleury lend themselves to the game of the Most beautiful holidays at 5:30 p.m. on TF1. Her couple, her experience on the show, her dream vacation… Miss France 2019 gives herself up to Télé Star.

Télé Star: Did you hesitate before taking part in the Best vacation of TF1?

Vaimalama Chaves : No, not for a second. It would have been a shame not to jump at the chance of this most beautiful vacation. Especially since the production suggested that we go to Corsica with my companion, which I didn’t mind.

Was it your first time on the Isle of Beauty?

I had the opportunity to go there once, previously, for a vacation with friends, last year. We had stayed in the Sagone region so this time it was an opportunity to discover Corsica in a different way. Other places with other experiences and I liked it a lot.

Are you more of a sports or lazing holiday?

I like to rest but not too long either, and at the same time, I don’t like when it’s too active. You need the right balance between days doing nothing and others where you can challenge yourself, such as hiking.

Nicolas Fleury, your companion, he is much more focused on sports holidays. Does it make your vacation together more complex?

No, on the contrary, it’s interesting because it allows us to have moments to ourselves, without being on top of each other or with each other all the time.

What greatly upset Vaimalama Chaves and Nicolas Fleury in The most beautiful holidays

We learn on the show that with Nicolas, your schedules are so busy that sometimes you don’t see each other much. How do you manage the distance and the absences of each other?

We call each other often. Sometimes every day. But this distance makes it possible to create lack and to avoid the routine that one can sometimes feel when one is posed with someone whom one sees daily. There, we tell each other what we each live on our side. There are always things that we have discovered and that we want to share with others.

You are generous with your grades. Did you have any qualms about being difficult with the owners?

Yes a lot. I hate to criticize, and Nico is like me. It was really complicated for me to say that it was not good because it is not necessarily the case, simply, it corresponds less to us. So it bothered us and upset us a lot. We weren’t there to shoot people, especially since they put their hearts into it. They did not come to suffer!

At the end of the show, did you actually stay in the accommodation that was your favorite?

No, not even. We could not take advantage of it for a question of organization. We were able to visit these exceptional properties and meet really lovely owners whose addresses we have kept, so that if we go back to Corsica, we can stay there.

Vaimalama Chaves: “My best holiday memory? When I showed Nicolas my home”

You are often on the move. Are vacations all year round for you?

I am if you consider that visiting other places is a vacation; but it’s for work. It’s not a vacation, but at the same time, it’s not as complicated as being in an office.

You have just returned from filming in La Réunion. Can you tell us about it?

It’s for a show called The Misses are not afraid of anything [diffusée sur La 1ère, ndlr] where several Misses from Overseas meet to promote these regions, their culture and all the activities that can be found there. I was won over by Réunion, which is also called the Intense Island. It is as plural as the number of ethnic groups which compose it and which live in total harmony. There will also be an episode in Polynesia, I hope that I will have the chance to be there and to invite Misses from Overseas to accompany me there.

So far, what is your best vacation memory?

I would say it was when I introduced Nicolas to my home. I made him undergo all the Polynesian culture through dishes that nobody likes [rires]. He was hazed to cut the coconut and prepare it so that we could eat it. We also went for walks in the mountains, by bike – there, it was he who brought me, it was really cool.

Is there a destination that makes you dream?

I would love to visit Asia in general, because except for Japan, I’ve never been there. There is also Australia, although I am afraid of spiders and other beasts there.
