Cynthia Conte is the new buyer of the show “Affaire concluded”. For Télé Star, she agreed to confide in her career and her arrival in the program of France 2.
Télé Star: How did you join the program?
Cynthia Conte: I had the chance to be cast for a prime time and I had a wonderful contact with the caster. The issuance of the bonus was a moment of happiness for me. I was called back long before the broadcast and it started like that. I couldn’t say no.
For what reason(s) did you agree to become a permanent buyer?
First of all, it’s my job. I only do that in my daily life, so whether I do it anonymously or in front of cameras, it’s the same thing. And then it’s a great show. “Closed deal” has democratized certain things. Many people had a complicated relationship with antiquity: they forbade themselves thinking that it was too expensive or not for them. But the program opens up possibilities.
Tell us about your encounter with the other buyers of the show.
Everything took place in benevolence and it is not jargon. I had attentions and a little paternalism too. Paul Azzopardi was really lovely. François Cases Bardina knows my father. They met twenty years ago. Anne-Catherine Verwaerde is a charming woman and Aurore is a sweetie.
Did they give you advice?
Yes and no. I didn’t change my personality or attitude by joining the show. I believe in being yourself and that’s the advice I was given. I was also told that the camera was revealing. So if we lie and if we are not professional, it shows.
What relationship do you have with the host Sophie Davant ?
I did not see it immediately because the construction of the show is done in two parts. But she is a woman who is as we see her on the small screen. She is really very warm.
What type of object are you looking for in “Deal done“?
This job is a job of curiosity. We remain merchants and merchants with a clientele that has requirements. There are things I probably won’t go for because I wouldn’t have a sale behind it. Despite everything, you have to learn and nourish yourself every day. I take the example of my father, who, after 50 years of career, continues to learn. Me, after 25 years, it’s the same thing. This show blows me away : thanks to this program I will probably go to things that I am not used to.
How long have you been an antique dealer?
I have specialized in 18th century furniture and 17th and 18th century painting, especially Italian painting for 25 years. I marvel every day. It’s a family affair for me. My grandfather was a second-hand dealer after the war. Then my father was a cabinetmaker, major of his promotion at the Boulle school. I now work with him. It’s my mother who takes care of the main gallery and with my father we hunt for the small gallery. I learned alongside him but also in school; I studied Art History at the Sorbonne. I went to Florence and worked at Christie’s.
What was your first bid?
I acquired something, which, if one is passionate about painting, can only enchant. It is extremely exciting!
How long do you plan to stay on the air?
I don’t set myself a limit. As long as I have the passion and wonder, there’s no reason for me to stop. The day when it will no longer amuse me or that I no longer like it, I will stop. Television is not my job, although I am happy to do it.
