Investigation at dance academy – Zurich University of the Arts sees itself exonerated from allegations – News

Karin Mairitsch, Rector of the Zurich University of the Arts, comments on the results of the study in the Zurich Schaffhausen regional journal.

SRF News: What do you say about the misconduct recorded in the report?

Karin Mairitsch: What is important and relevant for us is that the recommendations relate to the motivational climate and body weight and we are already on the right track. We have already initiated and implemented measures.

What measures have been taken at the university since the allegations became known?

In my opinion, it is important that the students have more recovery time. We went from six to five days of lessons. The quality assurance system, information, communication and prevention have improved in the structures of the Zurich University of the Arts. We also worked very hard on the learning atmosphere and trusting interactions. And in the area of health, we have set up a coordination office.

How can you restore the dance academy’s reputation?

I think it is noticeable that the dance academy is evolving and that it is taking this as an opportunity to learn. That’s what she radiates and that’s what she does. She has a new head of dance and a very committed interim leadership team – which means things are taking effect. This won’t damage their reputation.

Is this enough?

Our measures are comprehensive. We will evaluate whether it is enough. If it’s not enough, we’ll continue to work on ourselves and become even better.

The interview was conducted by Elisabetta Antonelli.
