The model will take part in the exclusive fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the seventh time in 2024 and will invest 13,500 hours for her wow appearance in white. Or better yet, let 70 people invest. In two work steps of 5,000 and 8,500 hours, they first create their off-the-shoulder corset dress with flared hips by Thom Browne and then a matching white silk moiré coat with black edges made of duchesse satin and decorated with yellow 3D roses.

They are not only a colorful eye-catcher and a floral core element in Gigi’s interpretation of the “Garden of Time”, but with 2.8 million microbeads that were hand-knitted onto the dress, they alone require 20 artisans to work. No other prominent guest on this evening could boast a more complex process.

Demi Lovato shines with 500 handmade flowers on her dress

Welcome back! Singer Demi Lovato, 31, returns to the Met Gala red carpet after an eight-year absence and appears in a true work of art for this special occasion. Her white, strapless couture dress by Prabal Gurung was made entirely by hand for the 2024 Met Gala. The dress’s silk lamé fabric is encrusted with sequins and glass crystals and covered in over 500 hand-cut, mirrored Mylar flowers with jeweled centers. How long did it take for this effort? Demi Lovato and her designer friend won’t tell. But more about the idea behind the design: “The flowers are soft and feminine, but still have a hard, futuristic touch. This is a dress that reflects the complexity of her work as an artist,” says Gurung. This much attention to detail still reveals something about the level of effort.

Mona Patel: She becomes famous with this futuristic dress

Mona Patel, 43, doesn’t tell you anything? From now on. The native Indian was already on a Forbes 100 list, but with her Met Gala appearance she also made it into the fashion Olympus of the big names. In a custom-made dress by Iris Van Herpen Couture, the entrepreneur floats over the steps of the Met for the very first time and leaves everyone in awe. Together with Zendaya’s stylist Law Roach, the 43-year-old creates her personal social butterfly moment and combines matching bracelets made of small butterflies with her butterfly dress made of sheer organza.

The highlight: Thanks to a small motor on the back, they are in motion the entire time as they ascend New York’s most famous steps, creating a real-life image of a butterfly. The idea came from Mona herself and was made by her friend, kinetic motion artist Casey Curran, up until the day before the Met Gala. All sorts of fashion fans will have butterflies in their stomachs!
