Good news for iPhone owners compatible with the latest version of the operating system: iOS 16.4 has been available for download for a few hours.
Announced for many weeks, the latest version of iOS 16 is finally available. Discover without further delay the new features planned in this update.
iOS 16.4: a shower of new emojis
Just last week, we mentioned the possibility of seeing iOS 16.4 land on this day of March 28. As you will have understood, the rumors were therefore true since the update has just been deployed on compatible devices. If you have an iPhone 8 (previously released smartphones are not compatible with iOS 16), then you can equip yourself with your phone to install the new update.
As promised by the Apple brand, the arrival of iOS 16.4 is an opportunity to introduce no less than 31 new emojis (10 of which are color variations). In this list, we find new animals (you will note in passing that the moose is particularly cute), hearts or even musical instruments, including the flute or the maracas.

Obviously, emojis aren’t the only new things in this update. The Cupertino company also took the opportunity to integrate new features and to fix various bugs. Here is the complete list of new features brought by iOS 16.4:
- New emoji: iOS now offers 21 new emoji, such as animals, hand gestures and objects.
Voice Isolation for Cell Calls: Your iPhone can now prioritize your voice and block out ambient noise during cell calls, providing a better experience for the person talking with you.
- Notifications for web apps are now available on the home screen.
- Duplicate Finder is now available for photos and videos in iCloud Shared Photo Library.
- Weather app maps now support VoiceOver.
- Your iPhone can now reduce the brightness when a video contains light flashes or strobe effects.
- The update fixes a bug where child purchase requisition requests are not showing up on a parent or caregiver’s device.
- The update fixes a bug where Matter-enabled thermostats stop responding when paired with Apple Home.
- The update improves collision detection on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models.
To download the update, nothing could be simpler: just go to your iPhone settings, then to “General” and “Software update”.

To claim that the iPhone 14 is just a marginally improved iPhone 13 isn’t entirely true…nor false, for that matter. If it inherits the appearance and the screen of its elder, it recovers the SoC of the iPhone 13 Pro (and its more powerful GPU). The back camera changes little at the hardware level, but now benefits from the new Photonic Engine which improves the quality of images in low light.
More interesting for selfie fans, the front camera gains autofocus which ensures sharp images and has the cinematic mode which switches to 4K. Video capture benefits from an ultra-stabilized “action” mode that we consider successful.
Finally, the device improves the safety of its owner thanks to the detection of car accidents as well as the possibility of sending a distress message by satellite (in the United States only for the moment). Can we reasonably advise this iPhone 13S which does not say its name? Yes, if you are sensitive to its novelties or if you want to switch from an old model (iPhone X and earlier) to a state-of-the-art iPhone.
If these few new features leave you cold, turn instead to the iPhone 13, still in the catalog and whose price will be a little lower (between 110 and 150 euros less, depending on the model).
Sold at 1,019, 1,149 or 1,409 euros (128, 256 and 512 GB versions) in France, the entry ticket is high. Very high. Especially since Apple no longer considers it useful to provide a charger with the device. On the other side of the Atlantic, the price is significantly lower. It is true that taxes and other European frills add to the bill. But not to the point of creating such a price difference, especially at a time when the dollar and the euro are almost equivalent…
