To give itself the possibility of adding more advanced functions to its operating systems, Apple will have to leave old iPhone
and iPad on the side.

It has been a few years since Apple has excluded iPhone from new iOS updates, this should change in 2022 with the deployment of iOS 16.

iOS 16 will not be accessible to everyone

According to the publication ofiPhoneSoft, who said to take his information from a developer working at Apple, three models that have had their day will not be able to install iOS 16, scheduled for next fall. These are devices equipped with the A9 chip, namely the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus and iPhone SE 2016, released on the market between 2015 and 2016.

Stopping the software monitoring of these iPhones should allow Apple to move forward with its operating system by integrating new interfaces and functionalities that could not be effectively managed by the Apple A9 SoC.

iOS 16 could arrive with version 2.0 of the Maps application in France, available since 2019 in the United States. We still have little information on what’s new in the update, but we can expect functions related to augmented reality and virtual reality since Apple is expected to launch a mixed reality headset next year.

Many iPads deprived of updating

The Apple brand will offer in parallel with iOS 16 a software update for its tablets, iPadOS 16. And this one too will not be accessible to all iPadOS 15 compatible devices. A9 chip or lower are excluded: iPad Mini 4, iPad Air 2, iPad 5, and iPad Pro 9.7 and 12.9 inches.

The iPod Touch 7, the only device in the range to have been entitled to iOS 15, will have the privilege of upgrading to iOS 16.
