If you haven’t updated your iPhone yet, now is the time. A new update under iOS makes it possible to counter a nasty bug which could block your mobile but also the iPad, warns Apple.
This bug, dubbed “doorLock” (door closed), is likely to affect all Apple devices that work with versions of iOS 14.7 through 15.2. And it is not to be taken lightly since it can permanently block the iPhone or iPad concerned, explains the site 9to5mac, specializing in information related to the apple brand.
Identified last August by cybersecurity researcher Trevor Spiniolas, the “doorLock” bug is likely to occur when you add a connected device via the Home application, which generally allows you to add home automation systems (connected bulbs, radiators, shutters rollers…) or even speakers. Apple claims this bug is triggered when using a maliciously crafted HomeKit accessory name. In this case, doorLock “may cause a denial of service”.
A risk of ransom demands
In a video posted on YouTube, Trevor Spiniolas detailed the method to use and demonstrated that once this bug was active on an iPhone, it became completely unusable. Its touch screen remains imperturbably impossible to use. Above all, it is possible to transmit this bug from device to device quite easily.
If in fact, it is unlikely to be a victim of this bug, the researcher warns that a hacker who would be near your home could use this vulnerability to demand a ransom in order to unlock the iPhone and iPad of the hearth affected. A procedure modeled on the famous ransomware (ransomware) to extort sums from companies or individuals.
Apple therefore invites you to install the iOS 15.2.1 update on the iPhone and iPad as soon as possible.
