iOS & iPadOS 16: These iPhones and iPads are being phased out

The iPhone 14 is coming, that should be clear to everyone. Open but when, at what price and with what technology. So far, the only thing that is certain is that – as is usual with Apple – it will appear with a new edition of the in-house operating system iOS. However, it is also uncertain which new functions the Cupertino group will give the software this time. Speculations in this regard regularly appear on the Internet, but they are not really reliable. The situation is different when it comes to the question of which devices do not benefit from the new iOS 16: Here the French website iPhoneSoft has its say and announces that three iPhone models will no longer receive an update.
According to the information available, these are the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus and iPhone SE (2016). All of them should not get the new iOS version due to the fact that Apple’s own A9 processor works in them. As a result, Apple has probably decided to make the “A10 Fusion” chip presented in September 2016 as a minimum requirement for the operation of iOS 16. What moves Apple to take this step is uncertain. It is conceivable that this will happen due to the planned innovations and the associated demands on the processor.
The situation is similar with the Apple tablets: According to the French website, which cites unspecified sources, the manufacturer excludes four models from the update to iPadOS 16. Specifically: iPad Air 2 from 2014, the iPad mini 4 released in 2015, iPad Pro (9.7 and 12.9 inch) and the iPad 5 presented in 2017. The departure of the devices mentioned is not really surprising: All of them are over four years old . It is much more astonishing that Apple provided them with up-to-date operating systems for so many years. Important: In the event of security gaps, Apple will probably continue to provide the described devices with updates.
