Should you buy an iPad Air now or rather wait for the 5th generation? It is already on the way, makes a lot of things better and will soon be presented at an Apple event. We’ll tell you why the wait is worth it in the end.
The iPad Air is actually a wonderful compromise for users who want a full-format display without thick bezels, but who shy away from the costs of an iPad Pro. However, there was no update last year and the technology is no longer up to date.
iPad Air 5: Which is Better?
This could change as early as spring, because as the Japanese website Mac Otakara claims to have learned, Apple is planning the Introduction of the iPad Air 5 together with the iPhone SE 3 in the next few months at a corresponding event (Source: Mac Otakara). This would probably be expected in March or April. Ergo: A good reason to wait before buying the current iPad Air, but there are even more points in favor of waiting.
- Apple A15 chip: According to the report, the new iPad Air will receive the current chip from the iPhone 13. In the predecessor, however, the A14 works, not much worse, but just 1.5 years older.
- New front camera: One of the biggest pluses is probably the ultra wide-angle camera (12 megapixels), which already works in the iPad mini 6 and has the fascinating center stage feature. The camera recognizes people and always follows them, so it always chooses the right section – like a real cameraman.
- Optional 5G: The cellular models currently have to make do with LTE, but a 5G modem is considered safe for the iPad Air 5.
- LED light: It’s still pretty dark at the moment, but the new iPad Air 5 is likely to be fitted with the 4x LED True Tone flash of the iPad mini 6, so that better shots can be taken in the dark.

In summary: The iPad Air 5 is technically on par with the 6th generation iPad mini that was only introduced last year, which in turn took over the main features (full-format display, Touch ID in the power button, USB-C) of the current iPad Air. Both model series are then again from the same mould, and they only differ in terms of the display – 8.3 vs. 10.9 inches. A strong middle class, arranged between the Pro models and the “budget tablet” in a classic design with a home button. By the way, you probably don’t have to wait for an OLED screen on the Air, nothing is happening at the moment.
