Rumored for months, the new iPad Air and iPad Pro should see their design evolve this year. The precise measurements of the new Apple tablets, obtained by 9to5Macattest to this.

What to expect on the iPad side from Apple this year? For several months, rumors and other leaks have allowed us to be almost certain that a large format iPad Air was in the works and that the iPad Pro could receive an OLED screen this year. These leads are supported this week by new information from a specialized American site.

The 12.9-inch iPad Air is becoming clearer, as is OLED for the iPad Pro

In this case, the media 9to5Mac managed, thanks to its sources, to obtain the exact dimensions of the new iPad Air and iPad Pro. Here they are, with the comparison compared to current models:

  • iPad Pro 11-inch (current): 247.6 x 178.5 x 5.9 mm
  • iPad Pro 11-inch (new): 249.7 x 177.5 x 5.1 mm
  • 12.9-inch iPad Pro (current): 280.6 x 214.9 x 6.4 mm
  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (new): 281.5 x 215.5 x 5.0 mm
  • iPad Air 12.9-inch (new): 280.6 x 214.9 x 6.0 mm

What we remember is that an iPad Air XXL would be very relevant today. In this case, Apple is preparing to market two new iPad Air models in 2024 (designated internally under the code names J507 and J537). The first would be identical or almost identical to the iPad Air that we already know, the second would use the same design, but this time with a diagonal of 12.9 inches… identical to that of the largest iPad Pro.

The idea for Apple would be both to expand its offering in the mid-range, but also to revive tablet sales, which have been at half mast since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Towards a launch in March?

These dimensions also support the thesis of the arrival of OLED on the 2024 iPad Pros. If we stick to this information, the latter will in fact be slightly larger and a little thinner than the 2023 models. This thinning is (probably) enabled by the transition to OLED technology, which allows the manufacture of thinner screens than the LCD panels used until now on iPad Pros. The increased finesse of the 11- and 12.9-inch 2024 models finally suggests that both versions of the iPad Pro would adopt OLED this year.

Either way, the launch of the new iPad Air and iPad Pro would be imminent. According to 9to5Macmanufacturers of cases, covers and accessories for iPad have in fact launched their production at full speed to support the release of Apple’s new slates. Bloomberg, for its part, was recently counting on marketing at the end of March. We should therefore quickly be fixed.
