So far it has only been a guess, albeit a very credible one. But now Apple has confirmed that iPadOS 16 will never be released for the iPad. Instead, the manufacturer is planning the next update right away, but that will take time.

Apple

In the last few days, the sparrows in the rumor mill have been whistling from their roofs: iPadOS 16 will be delayed and iPad users will therefore have to wait longer for their update. However, there was no official confirmation – until now. In the course of the latest developer versions of iOS 16, Apple is not releasing the 7th beta of iPadOS 16, but instead the first pre-release of iPadOS 16.1 for the developers.

iPadOS 16.1 instead of iPadOS 16: Apple is changing plans for the iPad

This turns the fear into reality and the iPad update will not be released this year at the same time as iOS 16 for the iPhone. Compared to TechChrunch, Apple then makes it clear again (translated): “This is a particularly important year for iPadOS. As a proprietary platform with features built specifically for iPad, we have the flexibility to ship iPadOS on our own schedule. This fall, iPadOS will ship after iOS as version 16.1 in a free software update.”

Along with iPadOS 16.1, Apple is taking the opportunity to launch a new feature for the stage manager to introduce There should be an option to make the Stage Manager sidebar appear again with a gesture while the function is in full-screen mode. Other than that, the update includes the usual bug fixes.

Not all of these updates will appear at the same time in 2022 – iPadOS and macOS need more time:

Probably not presented until October

Apple did not give a specific date for the presentation of iPadOS 16.1, but the industry is assuming a date in October. Most likely shortly after another Apple event to unveil new iPads and Macs. Among other things, the 10th generation iPad and new models of the iPad Pro are expected. Apple’s approach this time is quite unusual. Delayed rollout of future macOS updates is common, but iOS and iPadOS have mostly been released at the same time so far. Not so this year, however, iOS 16 will be released on time in September, the counterpart for the iPad will be delayed.
