Not all functions of the iPhone 14 can currently be used anywhere in the world. For example, Apple currently limits the life-saving feature “Satellite SOS” to only the United States and Canada. But this will change, and this year.
At the presentation of the iPhone 14 was the Emergency SOS function via satellite certainly one of the highlights. If the worst comes to the worst, if there is no mobile network available far and wide, the Apple cell phone can make direct contact with a satellite and thus make an emergency call. Users can then be found and rescued. Small flaw: The feature is available on all iPhone 14 (Plus) and iPhone 14 Pro (Max) models, but it is at the moment and from November only for customers in the USA and Canada. The rest of the world has yet to do without it.

However, this is set to change this year. As the colleagues from macprime in Switzerland found out, Apple plans to announce more countries in 2022, followed by even more regions next year. Which will these be? This important information is still missing. But we can hope that Europe will be there and hopefully won’t have to wait years.

We still remember various negative examples of internationalization: Apple Pay, for example, was launched in October 2014 in the USA. Unfortunately, we in Germany had to wait until December 2018 for the Apple payment service. Worth mentioning: A rather controversial feature of the iPhone 14 is still reserved for the USA. The models in the States only have an eSIM and no longer have a physical card slot for the SIM of the mobile phone provider. On the one hand, the reduction in components and slots should ensure greater reliability, on the other hand, it massively restricts the choice of mobile phone provider at home and abroad. In all honesty, we don’t mind if this exclusive feature remains a US-only feature.
