Apple has admitted a data breach on its iPhones. Accordingly, recordings were collected from users via the voice assistant Siri, even if the users had deactivated this option.
After an update to iOS 15.4, which is currently being distributed as a beta, numerous users have experienced something unusual. As reported by “ZDNet”, these iPhone users were again asked whether they wanted to forward recordings to Apple when using Siri. These recordings are intended to further improve Apple’s language assistant. In the meantime, the iPhone group has commented on this.
Apparently, the renewed query results from a data breach. According to this, there was a bug in the old iOS version that activated the recording of voice inputs even if the user had rejected them. This is how records are said to have been forwarded. However, Apple reports that all recordings that came about as a result of the bug have been deleted.
Apple: iPhone users do not have to act for the time being
The bug was already discovered with iOS 15.2. When Apple recognized the problem, recording was disabled for the affected users. According to the iPhone group, only a small proportion of users were affected. Users who now download the beta will be asked again if they want to share the data with Apple.
iPhone users cannot currently determine whether they were affected by the bug. You have to rely on Apple actually deleting the recordings. The error should no longer appear with the new version of the smartphone operating system.
