Apple is launching its public beta program, and you can preview the new features of these systems, expected in final version for the month of September.

Almost a month and a half after their announcement, and three beta versions reserved for developers, it’s the general public’s turn to test the improvements and new features brought by iOS 17 and iPadOS 17.

iOS 17: a public beta to recover very easily

This year, Apple has greatly simplified the procedure for obtaining beta versions of its new operating systems. Previously, users wishing to discover before everyone else the latest news coming to their iPhone and iPad had to go to the Apple site and download a profile to install on their device.

With iOS 17, things are much more obvious. If you want to jump into the latest system and help Apple track down any bugs still present in these preview builds, just head to the Settings app, click General, and finally , “Software Updates”.

Then click on “Beta Updates” and tap on “iOS 17 Public Beta”. Go back, and the installation package will be offered immediately. Click on “Download and install” to start the installation, which should take about thirty minutes at most.

Finally, we remind you that it is imperative to make a local backup of your device before any installation. If this version already seems stable and usable on a daily basis, problems remain, and we strongly advise you to keep a copy of your phone, if you finally want to return to iOS 16 after a few days of use.

iOS 17: several new features to try without further delay

If you’re too impatient to wait until September, and the likely release of the final versions of iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, there’s no time to waste installing this trial version. You will be able to find most of the new features announced by Apple, starting with contact posters, which allow you to customize the photo that will be displayed on your correspondent’s iPhone when you give him a call.

iOS 17 is also full of welcome improvements such as widgets, finally interactive, the appearance of a Standby mode which displays information when your phone is charging in a horizontal position (for example on a MagSafe support), the NameDrop functionality to share its contact card automatically by approaching two iPhones, or even improvements to the Messages application and a spotlight on the creation of animated stickers.

If you want to know more and discover all the new features in this public beta, we invite you to consult our complete iOS 17 hands-on.
