Make them ever smarter. It is the constant quest of robot vacuum cleaner manufacturers who want their products to become essential to your interiors, but in complete discretion. They still need to know how to tackle their task correctly and without the need for human intervention.

iRobot found the solution by having its own operating system. The brand already relied on its iRobot Genius platform, which brought a number of advanced features to its ranges. This evolves to become a real OS in its own right, iRobot OS.

Functions for animals at the top of the list

The objective is therefore to havea cleaner, healthier and smarter home. » And for that, the millions of iRobot robot vacuum cleaners in circulation must be able to understand their home environment much better, thanks to the advantages of the advanced computer vision platform. Thus, they can understand the habits of users, connect to compatible equipment in the house to work smarter.

iRobot OS will therefore integrate all the know-how already seen on the latest models, Roomba j7 and j7+, in terms of understanding and detection. It will also meet the expectations of pet owners who are not always pampered by robot vacuum cleaners that struggle to properly clean “hairy” areas. The Roomba j7 will be equipped with iRobot OS to detect and eliminate animal waste thanks to “more functions for animals than all other robots ».

Added to this are functions such as animal locking to prevent a walking paw from triggering the device, as well as exclusion zones to avoid bowls or even reinforced cleaning when your pet loses its bristles more intensively.

Interact more with the connected home

But not everyone has a pet and, very often, what matters is not having to store your home impeccably so that the vacuum cleaner can evolve serenely, without carrying the cable of the smartphone that is still connected or a sock that was dragging. iRobot promises detection of over 80 common objects through improved object recognition and detection through iRobot OS.

To be able to work in concert with other connected objects in the house, iRobot OS will support more than 600 Alexa, Google Assistant or even Siri commands. You can thus vocally launch the cleaning, even targeted on a single room, schedule it or have it start once the “Start” routine is activated after leaving the house.

The changes made by iRobot OS seem initially intended for Roomba j7/j7+. No official launch date has been given by the company.
