For his new production, Jérôme Commandeur has surrounded himself with a vast cast: Laetitia Dosch, Pascale Arbillot, Gérard Darmon, but also Esteban or even Christian Clavier and Valérie Lemercier for wink appearances.
An appearance should surprise in particular, in this case that of Gérard Depardieu in his own role. Jérôme Commandeur has fun with the spectator by imagining a sequence more real than life in which Gérard Depardieu launches into a plea for France, guest of the JT of France 2.
A counterpoint for Gérard Depardieu …
“I make Gérard Depardieu say that he is coming back to France and I make him take the exact opposite view of everything he is saying at the moment, that he no longer wants to come here, etc. And so I make him make a plea for France.”
And to add: “it needed an icon, so we thought of Goldman and a few other people. And then we said to ourselves, in terms of an icon, someone who really represents France, Depardieu is a little bit there. I therefore make him speak a little in love with our country. Because today, we are only dividing, and we must also say to ourselves, a bit like a collective therapy, beware, we have a magnificent country, we have regions, a cuisine, a culture, a cinema… We have an exceptional country. Let’s love it and through it, let’s love each other.”
… and Christian Clavier as a railway worker
Clever, Jérôme Commandeur also imagined Christian Clavier in a rather irresistible role, and to say the least rare in his filmography: he portrays a character of a railway worker, totally committed to the left! “It was the first time that Christian had played a role on the left, he was delighted!“, jokes Jérôme Commandeur, as you can see at the end of the video below:
In Irreducible, Jérôme Commandeur is Vincent Peltier, a peaceful employee at “Eaux et forêt” in Limoges. He is pressured to resign because of a staffing review, which he least wants.
