Is The Braid a good film? The first spectators give their opinion

Did La Tresse win over the first curious people who came to see it in theaters? We take stock using the AlloCiné spectator ratings.

Released in theaters on November 29, La Tresse is the adaptation of the novel of the same written by Laetitia Colombani. The latter transposes to the screen her own work published in 2017 and sold more than 5 million copies.

The story takes us to meet 3 women who are going to lead a fight. The first story takes us to India. The plot follows Smita, an Untouchable. She dreams of seeing her daughter escape her miserable condition and enter school.

We then travel to Italy. Giulia works in her father’s workshop. When he suffers an accident, she discovers that the family business is ruined. Finally, we end this trip in Canada.

Sarah, a renowned lawyer, is going to be promoted to head of her firm when she learns that she is ill. Three lives, three women, three continents. Three battles to fight. Although they do not know each other, Smita, Giulia and Sarah are linked without knowing it by what is most intimate and most singular about them.

Was La Tresse appreciated by the first spectators? If the press gave it an average rating of 2.4 out of 5, the public was apparently won over. Indeed, with a score of 4.1 out of 5 (average of 208 ratings), Laetitia Colombani’s feature film convinced the first curious people to have visited the cinemas.

“This touching and very well-made choral film is a marvel. I loved the novel, the film lived up to my expectations”, indicates Judithtexas. For his part, Coric Bernard is also won over: “The completely different stories of these three women, which take place on three continents, are perfectly intertwined and manage to move us. This film is also an invitation to travel to India, Italy and Canada.”

I think we are on one of the best films of the year 2023 without any hesitation!

Alolfer is also very enthusiastic: “I think we are on one of the best films of the year 2023 without any hesitation! What an exceptional film! A nameless beauty! Everything is mastered: whether it is the trio of actresses, which is remarkable, the staging scene, as well as the photography which is magnificent and the sublime music of Ludovico Einaudi.”

Capirex was also very touched by La Tresse, which he believes is “an excellent production by Laetitia Colombani and a beautiful lesson in humanism. We can only be touched by these beautiful portraits and these moving destinies”he believes.

If the majority of the first spectators really liked the feature film, some people bring some nuances. “The three actresses are remarkable (special mention to the lovely and sunny Italian) but the story taken from a book is stitched together. The production is flat and the invasive tear-jerking music plunges the film into pathos sticky.”

It’s predictable, formatted and really dripping with good feelings.

Ourouty also judges La Tresse “predictable, formatted and really dripping with good feelings. We can feel the connection between the 3 protagonists coming from miles away”, this spectator tells us. Rvrichou is also mixed: “The screenplay holds up. It’s especially the part shot in India that is successful as well as the images shot in Italy. For the Canadian part, the story is more reminiscent of a bad TV movie but the characters are moving.”

The Braid was released in theaters on November 29, if you want to go and form your own opinion.
