A motion of censure was tabled by the 150 left-wing deputies who denounce the refusal of the head of government Gabriel Attal to submit to the vote of confidence of the Assembly. To be adopted, this motion will need to win 140 additional votes. The position of the Republicans and the National Rally will therefore be decisive.
The National Assembly studies from 10 a.m. the motion of censure tabled by Nupes and its 150 deputies. It will take 140 more to adopt the motion of censure. The position of the Republicans (LR) and the National Rally (RN) is therefore decisive, because without their vote, it is impossible to overthrow the government of Gabriel Attal. The official decision of the two groups has not yet been communicated and remains unclear.
The RN should not vote on the motion of censure
The suspense must end this Monday morning for the National Gathering. Marine Le Pen will share her decision with her deputies in the coming minutes and, according to information from Europe 1, even if Jordan Bardella’s party still hopes for a dissolution of the National Assembly, and the organization of new legislative elections to try to obtain a majority and impose cohabitation on Emmanuel Macron, the RN should not vote on the motion of censure.
The Republicans want to get tougher
But to overthrow the government, in addition to the votes of the left and the RN, you necessarily need those of the Republicans. The LR group would not yet be ready to cross the Rubicon, although this idea is gaining ground in the ranks of the right.
Since the poaching of Rachida Dati, and the setback on the immigration law, several deputies now want to toughen their tone against the government but not immediately. Éric Ciotti is now talking about an “option” while Olivier Marleix is considering filing his own motion of censure, but rather in the coming months. Clearly, what poses a problem for the Republicans is voting on a motion of censure defended by La France insoumise. There is no question of adding their voices to those of the far left. No doubt therefore that Gabriel Attal will sleep at Matignon this Monday evening.
