In an interview given in the issue of Télé 7 Jours, this Monday, September 11, Isabelle Adjani ranted against misogyny and sexism in the world of cinema. She also encouraged actresses to stand up for themselves.
Isabelle Adjani is not afraid to say what she thinks. On the occasion of the broadcast of the TV film goodbye vinyldirected by Josée Dayan, on September 18, the actress gave an interview in the new issue of TV 7 Days, available on newsstands this Monday, September 11. During this interview, the actress is first returned to the role she plays in this film. “What escapes from this character is that she was born in a star-studded, sophisticated world, and we feel thatshe doesn’t have the power to adapt to the new wave that is coming”, she explained.
The actress also took the opportunity to denounce the sexism that exists in the world of cinema, putting aside women who are getting older. In the TV movie, her character says, “I’m old and fuck you”. A sentence that speaks a lot to Isabelle Adjani. “It’s a way of expressing yourself: here it is today, discrimination on the age of actresses no longer exists”, she said.

“There will always be old idiots”
“We actresses can play anything from the moment we decide”, regardless of their age, estimated the 68-year-old actress. Isabelle Adjani therefore encouraged women to fight against this patriarchal vision that reigns in the cinema industry. “The future is here,it belongs to us, it is up to us not to allow ourselves to be victimized, imprisoned and become our own enemy. Yes, there will always be old fools, bad guys, and even women who don’t like women! It is up to us, above all, to come up with the ideas and to approach progressive productions and feminist directors or screenwriters. With energy, we can overcome absolutely all misogynistic obstacles“, she assured.
Isabelle Adjani also mentioned the female rivalry that reigns in the cinema industry. “It’s a very French thing that exists so little among the Anglo-Saxons. There, the actresses are united with each other. I have always found their way of speaking about their female colleagues very generous. In France, it’s quite rare to read an interview with an actress who celebrates another”, she underlined, regretting this lack of sisterhood between French actresses.
