The cinema, the cinema, always the cinema! While Italy shone with a thousand lights at the Venice Film Festival in September 2022, the country is once again putting the 7th art in the spotlight. This is another event which has just opened its doors, in the country of the boot, since the Rome Film Festival began, with great fanfare, on Thursday 13 October. Since then, every day has been amazing in its own way. On Tuesday, October 18, for example, it was director Michele Placido’s turn to amaze the audience with the preview screening of his film The shadow of CaravaggioWhere Caravaggiotranslate in French.
It will be necessary to wait until December 28, 2022 to be able to discover the feature film in dark rooms. But a very VIP small group had the opportunity to see the film The shadow of Caravaggio before anyone else, from the Italian capital. In attendance were the director Louis Garrel, who has just released his fourth film The Innocent – which was screened in particular on the evening of the opening of the Lumière Festival in Lyon -, Michele Placido, of course, as well as three of his children, Brenno, Violante and Michelangelo, but also Isabelle Huppert and her daughter Lolita Chammah, Micaela Ramazzotti and Paolo Virzi.
The evening ended on a high note as an after-party was organized just after the screening of The shadow of Caravaggio. As its name suggests, Michele Placido’s new film retraces the life of the famous painter Caravaggio, who took refuge in Naples in 1609 after being accused of murder. Supported by the powerful Colonna family, the artist had tried to obtain the grace of the Church to be able to return to Rome – precisely where the festival took place – but the Pope had decided to launch an investigation against him, led by the Inquisition, because of the subversive painting and “contrary to the morals of the Church” of the painter. It is Riccardo Scamarcio who embodies the hero of the feature film but he gives the reply to Louis Garrel and Isabelle Huppert, which explains their presence on the red carpet.
