Isère: a car mows down three highway agents, the driver positive for narcotics


Mowed down by a German motorist traveling in the Chambéry-Lyon direction, a highway agent died on Wednesday April 27. Two other patrollers were injured and taken to hospital. The driver involved tested positive for narcotics.

The accident occurred early this Wednesday morning, shortly before 6 a.m., near Verpillère in Isère. While removing the road markings on the A43 motorway, the three officers were hit by a car registered in Germany.

According to a source familiar with the matter at CNEWS, the German motorist was traveling at high speed in a construction area and mowed down the three highway agents in his path.

A 54-year-old patrolman died as a result of this accident. His 58-year-old colleague was seriously injured. He was quickly evacuated by helicopter to a hospital in Lyon. His vital prognosis is engaged. As for the third agent, he was transported to the Pierre Oudot hospital center in Bourgoin-Jallieu with “less serious” injuries.

The German, who had no physical injuries, was subjected to a drug test carried out by the gendarmes of the La Verpillière motorway platoon. It later turned out that he was driving under the influence of narcotics.
