Israel denounces Syrian anti-aircraft missile launch

JERUSALEM, Feb 9 (Reuters) – The Israeli military said on Wednesday that a Syrian anti-aircraft missile was fired at Israel, triggering warning sirens, before exploding in midair.

Warning sirens went off in northern Israel and parts of the West Bank.

At the same time, Syrian state television reported that the country’s anti-aircraft defense systems had shot down Israeli missiles over Damascus.

A spokesman for the Israeli army did not comment on this information.

“We have identified the launch of an anti-aircraft missile from Syrian territory,” the Israeli army wrote on Twitter. (Report Jeffrey Heller; French version Camille Raynaud)
