Israel raids the Gaza Strip after rocket fire

JERUSALEM, April 19 (Reuters) – The Israeli military said the Jewish state on Monday shot down a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip, the first such attack in months amid growing tensions between Israelis and Palestinians.

No Palestinian faction claimed responsibility for the attack, which came after Hamas warned Israel of retaliation for its actions around the Al Aqsa mosque, Jerusalem.

Within hours of the rocket fire from Gaza, the Israeli army carried out airstrikes against camps used by Hamas and other factions in the Palestinian enclave, Palestinian sources said. No casualties were reported.

One of the targets of these raids was an arms production plant, the IDF said. (Report Dan Williams, with Nidal al-Mughrabi Gaza; French version Jean Terzian)
