it has enough to eclipse the Galaxy Z Fold 4

Honor unveils what should be its first folding phone marketed in Europe and France. On paper, it promises more endurance and a better hinge than a Galaxy Z Fold 4.

Honor has just unveiled its new folding smartphone, the Honor Magic Vs for the Chinese market. You may be thinking the following: yet another folding smartphone that will never come out here? It’s not so sure. If we follow the statements of Honor, which announced at IFA 2022 that its next folding phone would be released in Europe, there is every reason to believe that we are facing one of the first real competitors of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 in France, perhaps the first formalized even. And that is not nothing.

Especially since the Honor Magic Vs has arguments to make. Its teardrop hinge will avoid the small space left between the two parts of the phone when it is closed. In addition, the Asian group has improved its manufacturing process by removing all the gears, thus going from 92 parts for the single hinge to four.

Triple photo modules and decent weight

To finish on the design, it displays a weight that starts to be really interesting for a folding, since it goes down to 261 g, for a thickness of 6.1 mm when unfolded. It’s more than the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 with its 5.4 mm, but the latter has no French release date yet. On the back, there is a photo block in a fairly classic rectangle format which accommodates three cameras, a 54 megapixel, an 8 megapixel (X3) and a 50 megapixel (ultra wide-angle). The coating can feature three colors gold, black or sky blue.

Now let’s look at screens. Externally, you find a 6.45 inch panel, 2560 x 1080 pixels, 120 Hz and 1200 cd / m² announced. The internal screen, the one that folds, goes up to 2272 x 1984 pixels in definition, 90 Hz and 800 cd / m². The latter also has a matte coating to avoid reflections. A stylus was also shown, the Magic Pen, which should have a latency of just 2ms.

More enduring than an iPhone 14 Pro according to Honor

To liven it all up, Honor has equipped it with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, the most popular chip in the high-end segment in 2022, only surpassed by the newly announced Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or the recent Dimensity 9200s that we still waiting to find out in real conditions.

MagicOS 7, the manufacturer’s new interface, will give pride of place to multitasking, with the possibility of displaying an app on the upper part of the screen and another at the bottom. Let’s wait and see what degree of customization will be in our hands.

Last interesting element, the Magic Vs houses a 5000 mAh rechargeable battery at 66 W. On paper, according to a usage protocol established by Honor, this phone should last 9 hours and 34 minutes in constant use in the unfolded position, against 7 hours and 24 minutes for the Galaxy Z Fold 4. In the folded position, using the external screen, it should last 10 hours and 51 minutes. On this same protocol, an iPhone 14 Pro lasts 9 hours and 12 minutes.

The Honor Magic Vs should, barring a big surprise, find its way into Europe. For now, we don’t know its prices or availability. Here are the prices in China all the same, with a gross conversion to which it will undoubtedly be necessary to add significant taxes.
