It is THE French film of 2024 in the casting phew! Gilles Lellouche is even stronger than Le Grand Bain!

François Civil, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Alain Chabat, Vincent Lacoste and many others… A crazy casting for the new film by Gilles Lellouche, entitled… L’amour ouf! The film has just started shooting and will be released in the fall of 2024.

5 years after Le Grand Bain, Gilles Lellouche returns behind the camera for L’Amour ouf, the adaptation of a novel by Neville Thompson, a project that the actor-director has been carrying out for more than 10 years.

Billed as “an ultra-violent musical and romantic comedy”, the story is set in a squalid part of Dublin and follows the amorous tribulations of Jackie and Johnser. The main roles will be played by François Civil and Adèle Exarchopoulos.

Around François Civil and Adèle Exarchopoulos, the cast will be made up of Mallory Wanecque (noted in the film Les Pires), Malik Frikah (recently seen in Apaches), Alain Chabat, Benoît Poelvoorde, Vincent Lacoste, Jean-Pascal Zadi, Élodie Bouchez, Karim Leklou, Raphaël Quenard and Anthony Bajon. Le Film Français recently featured a poster from the Cannes Film Festival revealing the entire cast.

The film, whose shooting has just started, is co-written by Gilles Lellouche and Audrey Diwan, who recently gave an interview to Figaro Madame magazinefor a special Cannes 2023 edition.

What I liked was the romantic dimension of the story, its fresco side, its description of a social environment that speaks to me and that of an era – the 1980s and 1990s, which are my teenage years and youth. I’ve always liked mixing genres, and this novel seemed ideal for this exercise.“, develops Gilles Lellouche in the columns of the magazine.

Audrey Diwan completes: “What I liked about the book is that [Gilles Lellouche] saw there, his vision of time, of romanticism, all the questions of determinism that the subject summons, how we get lost and find ourselves in life. […] For L’Amour ouf, Gilles forced us to take the time to chisel, reflect, constantly re-examine ourselves to get to the very essence of the story. It really changed my way of thinking about writing.“.

For this film with an XXL cast, the shooting will be long (18 weeks) and the budget will also be very high: 32 million euros in budget, according to information from Variety. The release of L’Amour ouf by Gilles Lellouche is already set for October 16, 2024.
