These three young mothers are fighters in their own way: they fight to recover their children whose spouse, by fleeing abroad, has often deprived them of for years. A “heavy” subject, like many other treatises in the program which alternates with lighter themes (“A game changed their lives” or “They discovered a treasure”…). A variety that makes the salt of It starts today. “We do not forbid ourselves anything, confirms the producer Stephanie Guerin a few days earlier in the premises of Reservoir Prod. Our show represents life with its laughter and tears. We take the pulse of society through all these testimonies. The only requirement: never to fall into voyeurism. A winning bet. Every day, It starts today has an average of 1.1 million followers and 14.3% market share. Its audiences have even doubled since its creation in 2017. This success is also due to the qualities of Faustine Bollaert. “Accessible, empathetic with this very girl next door touch of naturalness that builds confidence. She appeals to all generations”, analyzes the producer, historical pillar of the design of the program. This quadra, entered as a junior journalist in the preparation of It is discussed and It is discussed day after day in 1998, quickly became the right arm of Jean-Luc Delarue. At the end of her famous headset: she was the one watching! “He’s been dead for almost ten years but I think of him every day”, she assures.

With four editors-in-chief and her editor-in-chief, the producer designs a trifle of 160 program themes each season. “People sometimes imagine that we click on a keyword and that we have a hundred names of potential witnesses when we are artisanal”, she laughs. To “manufacture” each issue, ten working days are necessary. It is up to the designated pair of investigators to find the “right” speakers. Social networks, discussion groups, clinics, lawyers… You have to cast a wide net and know how to track down imposters or those who want to be on TV at all costs. “We must have the entourage on the phone, be concrete at the legal level”, entrusts us Lea Vezin, one of the show’s reporters. We spend about an hour and a half on the phone with each person, we transcribe everything for our editor. The profiles selected? “You need a strong story and dignity”, says Stephanie Guérin.

Preserve spontaneity

The editor-in-chief ultimately writes a conductor of approximately 40 pages. It was only two days before the shooting that Faustine Bollaert became aware of it. Before each show, Stéphanie briefs her. To preserve the spontaneity of confessions, Faustine never meets the participants beforehand. On the other hand, as soon as she arrives on set, she takes a few minutes to reassure everyone. “Eileen, Fanny, Samia, be confident. Everything will be fine. You know your story and I adapt”, she says gently. The credits start. It left for an hour of recording. In the atrium, Stéphanie is always watching…
