It starts today: the sordid discovery of a guest of Faustine Bollaert on her father

In a rebroadcast episode of “It starts today”, one of the guests recounts the day she discovered that her father was a torturer in several wars involving France and other countries.

The viewers of France 2 were able to rediscover Thursday, April 28 a poignant episode of It starts today, dedicated to the children of dictators and war torturers. In this program, Faustine Bollaert welcomed Marie-France Bokassa, daughter of a famous Central African dictator, and Isabelle Vaha, daughter of a French legionnaire. Facing Faustine Bollaert, Isabelle Vaha confided a traumatic episode that occurred when she was eight years old . After his return from Indochina, the French legionnaire had caught a disease that caused him seizures: “In his fits, he always had a photo box on his lap, which he stared at for hours and I didn’t know what was in it”remembered Isabelle Vaha.

Isabelle Vaha: “I discovered my father who posed (…) next to scenes of torture”

The little girl had taken advantage of her parents’ absence to solve the mystery of this box, the contents of which she had never been able to see: “I discovered my father posing extremely proud, very haughty, very elegant even in his uniform, next to scenes of torture”she recalled.

On a horrified set, Isabelle Vaha gave more details on her macabre discovery: “In particular one that marked me and which still marks me, a photo where there is a low wall, and on the low wall there is a whole string of heads of Algerian men, who have been decapitated. My father posed next to with gestures of enormous satisfaction”she confessed.

Isabelle Vaha on her father: “When he died, he said he regretted not having massacred more Arabs”

Before her testimony, Isabelle Vaha portrayed her father, a legionnaire who was responsible for numerous acts of torture across several countries occupied by France: He is a legionnaire largely involved in the war in Indochina, then in the war in Algeria.with a will and pleasure to torture, and above all the legitimacy to torture”she explained in It starts today.

Until his last breath, Legionnaire Vaha never felt the slightest regret :: “At the end when dying, he said he was sorry he hadn’t slaughtered more Arabs”remembered his daughter.

Isabelle Vaha then wished to exercise her duty of memory, declaring that his father had been rewarded by France for these acts of barbarism : “There was social legitimacy since he was decorated with the Legion of Honor for acts of war. It’s crazy”she was indignant in the face of Faustine Bollaert.
